A skydiver jumped out of a plane at 25,000 feet without parachute — and survived [feedly]

----
A skydiver jumped out of a plane at 25,000 feet without parachute — and survived
// The Verge

Luke Aikins is a skydiver who is a safety and training advisor for the United States Parachute Association, and who has performed stunts on films such as Iron Man 3. Last night, he became the first person to jump out of an airplane without a parachute or wing suit and survive the landing.

The stunt is nothing short of amazing: leap out of an airplane at 25,000 feet (most skydivers jump at around 13,000 feet) without any sort of parachute or wing suit to slow his fall. To survive, he dropped into a 10,000 square foot net only a third the size of a football field. On top of all that, the entire jump was shown live.

You can watch the entire event here:

Aikins was assisted by three fellow skydivers and a GPS unit to help guide him to the net in the California desert. Just before he hit the net, he flipped onto his back and landed safely.

Aikins had previously been ordered to wear a parachute, but had indicated that he wouldn't open it on the drop. On the flight to his drop altitude, he was told that he could jump without it.

Fwd: Comey's background from an FBI posting

This was found posted on Congressman Pete Olson's FBI page.  I had no idea.

-Hillary Clinton goes under FBI investigation. She blatantly lies, saying she never handled any classified material through her private server

-President Obama endorses Hillary Clinton

-Bill Clinton secretly meets with U.S. Attorney General

-Attorney General blatantly lies to our faces, saying their conversation consisted of "grandchildren and golf"

-President Obama and Hillary Clinton fly around together on Air Force One to go and campaign for Hillary on the day of the FBI verdict

-FBI lays out Hillary Clinton's reckless and negligent behavior, concludes she did handle classified and top secret material & does not know whether or not the server had been hacked

How soon we all forget: Remember Whitewater? 20 years ago James Comey as an attorney on the Senate Whitewater Investigation was looking into the conduct of President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton.The investigation was to determine whether Bill Clinton used his political position as governor of Arkansas (in the 1980s) to push through an illegal loan to benefit Bill and Hillary's business partner in Whitewater. Several people involved in Whitewater went to jail, but no criminal prosecution was in the cards for Bill and Hillary. Remember James Comey was the Deputy Special Counsel for the Whitewater investigation....In Christopher Anderson's book, American Evita: Hillary Clinton's Rise to Power, Anderson gives details of the New Square offenders pardon by Bill Clinton (who had been convicted of bilking the government of $30 million dollars). Christopher Anderson relates that at Hillary's urging Bill gave clemency to 16 Puerto Rican terrorists who took the lives of 16 Americans and wounded many others.Anderson tell us that Hillary admired the Marxist Carl Oglesby and Saul Alinsky. It is from her admiration for Saul Alinsky that she formed her belief that "the only way to make a real difference is to acquire power." The pardon of billionaire Marc Rich (who traded illegally with America's enemies including Iran) by President Bill Clinton was something that everyone knew reeked of impropriety after learning that Rich's wife donated $450,000 to the Clinton Library. Again James Comey oversaw investigations of the pardon matters as well. Unbelievably James Comey did not recommend charging the Clinton in any of these matters. Wouldn't it be fair and balanced to give news coverage to these facts?

When I see Obama campaigning for Hillary saying she will be a good president, I'm reminded of what he said in 08, " Hillary will do anything, say anything to get elected!" So if you believe him now, you're only validating our liar in chief, " you can keep your health insurance!"

This isn't a right or left problem, it is an American problem and we all need to pull together and right the ship or we are toast.

Wikileaks has published a new batch of voicemails from the DNC hack [feedly]

----
Wikileaks has published a new batch of voicemails from the DNC hack
// The Verge

Wikileaks has released a cache of voicemails taken from a hack of the Democratic National Committee, in a publication it has dubbed The DNC Recordings. The release comes just days after a much larger publication, which included 19,000 emails from the top DNC figures as well as credit card and social security numbers from a number of top donors.

The 29 voicemails contain far less newsworthy information than the earlier dump, with the most notable being an extended complaint by an anti-Sanders donor upset at the committee's accommodation of the Sanders' campaign's demands. Nonetheless, the release represents a continuation of Wikileaks' efforts to disrupt the ongoing Democratic National Convention, which is currently in its third night of speakers.

The data originates from a hack of DNC systems first uncovered in June, and attributed to Russia by both a number of private sector firms and the US intelligence community. As a result, a number of figures have characterized the leaks as a Russian intelligence operation designed to influence the US election in Trump's favor.

Information drawn from the leaks has also provoked intense criticism of a number of DNC leaders, culminating in the abrupt resignation of DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz earlier this week.

An ABC news segment aired earlier in the day on Wednesday contains a segment of one of the voicemails, and it's unclear whether the network was given early access to the materials by Wikileaks. Wikileaks did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

10 Historic Shot Towers around the World [feedly]

----
10 Historic Shot Towers around the World
// Neatorama

(Photo: Damien Ramon Naidoo)

Once upon a time, to make bullets and cannonballs, nations and businesses would build shot towers. These are industrial sites sometimes hundreds of feet tall. Workers would drip molten lead from the top. These droplets would form spheres during their descent, then cool in that form when hitting a pool of water at the bottom. This technique permitted the mass production of adequately well-made ammunition.

Some of these shot towers still exist, such as Taroona Shot Tower, which is pictured above. The iron merchant Joseph Moir built it in Tasmania in 1870. The 150-foot tall tower is no longer active, but is well preserved and open to the public.

The beautiful Taroona Shot Tower is 1 of 10 well-preserved shot towers that still exist around the world. You can see others at Atlas Obscura.

Trump says he hopes Russia hacked Hillary Clinton’s emails [feedly]

----
Trump says he hopes Russia hacked Hillary Clinton's emails
// The Verge

Donald Trump says that if Russians were behind the security breach that made tens of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails public, he hopes they've also hacked Hillary Clinton's private email server. In a press conference, Trump responded to a question by saying that "it's probably not [Russia], nobody knows who it is." But he gleefully expounded on the implications of a Russian hack. "If they hacked, they probably have [Clinton's] 33,000 emails. I hope they do," he said, as quoted by Talking Points Memo. "They probably have her 33,000 emails that she lost and deleted."

In the clip below, Trump went further. "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing," he said. "I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let's see if that happens. That'll be next."

Donald Trump: "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing."https://t.co/XHc9hh4gBt

— CSPAN (@cspan) July 27, 2016

Trump is referring to roughly 30,000 emails that Clinton deleted from the private mail server she used as secretary of state, claiming that they were personal and unrelated to official business. A small number of these deleted emails have been recovered from other sources and publicly released by the State Department, along with tens of thousands of work-related messages.

So, to be clear, Donald Trump hopes that a foreign power has intercepted private State Department communications. There are legitimate, major problems with Clinton's use of a private mail server, but he is actively hoping for the worst-case scenario to come true, effectively because it would politically damage his opponent.

"If they have them, they have them."

Shortly after Trump's comments, his running mate Mike Pence issued a more politically acceptable statement. "The FBI will get to the bottom of who is behind the hacking," he wrote, as quoted by The Guardian. "If it is Russia and they are interfering in our elections, I can assure you both parties and the United States government will ensure there are serious consequences."

Reporter @KatyTurNBC asked Trump if he had qualms about asking Russia to hack Clinton.

He told her to "be quiet" pic.twitter.com/ZN0o35H6j7

— David Mack (@davidmackau) July 27, 2016

In a followup question from NBC reporter Katy Tur, though, Trump said he wasn't worried — and sent mixed messages about his earlier claim that Russia wasn't behind the DNC hack. "They probably have them. I'd like to have them released," he said. When Tur asked whether this fact gave him pause, he cut off the question. "Nope, gives me no pause," he said. "If they have them, they have them."

If Russia or any other country or person has Hillary Clinton's 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 27, 2016

Finally, on Twitter, he said that "if Russia or any other country or person" had hacked into Clinton's server — which, again, contained US State Department correspondence — they should helpfully contact the FBI and hand over their cache.

As journalist Philip Gourevitch notes, Trump will likely begin receiving national intelligence briefings in the coming weeks.

The Clinton campaign soon responded to his statements. "This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent," said campaign policy director Jake Sullivan in a statement posted by CNBC. "That's not hyperbole, that's just the facts. This has gone from being a matter of curiosity, and a matter of politics, to being a national security issue."

Update 12:37PM ET: Added statement from Clinton campaign.

Fwd: Mandatory Game Check Starts This Fall in Alabama

Press Release

Mandatory Game Check Starts This Fall in Alabama

Mandatory reporting of all deer and turkey harvests through Alabama's Game Check system goes into effect this fall. Hunters will have 48 hours to report their harvest through a mobile app, online or by phone. Long-term harvest data will be used to guide the state's deer and turkey management programs.

This spring, Alabama's Conservation Advisory Board (CAB) recommended mandatory reporting via the Game Check system if the statewide deer season was extended to February 10, with no closed period in December, and a bucks-only archery season was implemented in the South Zone (Zone B) from October 15-24. These changes will be in effect this fall as Alabama joins 47 other states with a mandatory harvest reporting system.

"We live in a data-driven world," said Chuck Sykes, Director of the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF). "That applies to wildlife management as well. Over time, the information collected though Game Check will give us a better understanding of Alabama's deer and turkey populations, which will ultimately benefit hunters for generations to come."

There are three ways to Game Check a harvested deer or turkey: through the Outdoor Alabama smartphone app available at www.outdooralabama.com/mobile-apps, online at www.outdooralabama.com/gamecheck, or by calling 1-800-888-7690.

Information required to Game Check a harvest includes the date of harvest, the type of animal (deer or turkey), sex of deer and age of gobbler (adult or jake), county of harvest, public or private land and a hunting license or H.E.L.P. (Hunter Exempt License Privilege) number.

Hunters are encouraged to utilize Game Check via the Outdoor Alabama mobile app or go online to report their harvest. Reporting via the mobile app can be completed offline regardless of cellphone or data coverage. Just input the information and the app will automatically submit it when cellphone or data coverage is restored. The phone number is provided as a service for hunters who do not have internet access.

Besides providing a convenient way to report your harvest, a smartphone with the Outdoor Alabama app will be accepted in lieu of a paper harvest record. Hunters who plan to Game Check online or by phone are still required to possess a harvest record and hunting license during their hunt.

"It's a very simple process and takes just a few minutes to use Game Check," Sykes said. "With multiple reporting options and a reasonable time frame to input the data, there are no barriers to using the system."

To educate hunters in Alabama about Game Check, WFF is holding seminars about the program throughout the state this summer and fall. Topics to be covered include how to check your game, why the data is important, how data collection benefits hunters and additional changes to the upcoming season. For more information about Game Check and to view a seminar schedule, visit www.outdooralabama.com/game-check-seminar-series or call WFF at 334-242-3465.

Menus Reveal What The Different Passenger Classes Ate On The Titanic
// Neatorama

People naturally have a morbid curiosity about the Titanic disaster, wondering about every little detail of that fateful April night in 1912, and slowly but surely virtually every detail has been revealed since.

As you may be aware there were three classes of passengers on board, and each class was treated quite differently during the voyage, but how differently is best illustrated by the three different class menus.

The First Class menu is suitably posh and pretentious, with consomme fermier instead of rice soup, egg a l'argenteuil instead of ham & eggs, and Camembert and Stilton instead of "cheese".

And then there are the poor Third Class passengers who are stuck eating gruel, "cabin biscuits" (a name that somehow sounds hard and tasteless), and plain old boiled potatoes.

First class or third class, they were all equal in the end...

WikiLeaks posts leaked DNC emails, including donor personal information [feedly]

----
WikiLeaks posts leaked DNC emails, including donor personal information
// The Verge

The week before Hillary Clinton is expected to become the Democratic presidential candidate, WikiLeaks has published over 19,000 emails it says come from seven top Democratic National Committee figures. Among them are hundreds of messages that appear to hold personal information about donors, all part of what WikiLeaks calls an ongoing series of "Hillary Leaks."

WikiLeaks announced the new database in a tweet, with the hashtags #Hillary2016 and #feelthebern. It includes 19,252 emails with 8,034 attachments, the bulk of the emails apparently from DNC communications director Luis Miranda. The messages run from January of 2015 to May of 2016. While they cover a range of topics, many are confirmation emails covering donations from party members, and in addition to full names, addresses, and phone numbers, some include passport and social security numbers. Gizmodo notes that there are also credit card payment details, including card numbers.

RELEASE: 19,252 emails from the US Democratic National Committee https://t.co/kpFxYDoNyX #Hillary2016 #FeelTheBern pic.twitter.com/Pft8wnOujl

— WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) July 22, 2016

While the last cache of Clinton-related emails WikiLeaks published were made publicly available by the State Department, these messages seem to come from a DNC network compromise that was reported earlier this year. The organization said in June that Russian hackers had broken into its servers, gaining access to email and chat logs dating back to 2015. Shortly thereafter, a hacker known as Guccifer 2.0 — supposedly based in Romania — claimed responsibility. Although the DNC had denied that hackers got access to financial and donor information, Gawker posted evidence that spreadsheets of donors had in fact been taken. A WordPress blog seemingly run by Guccifer then posted several troves of unredacted data, including oppositional research on Donald Trump.

As Gizmodo points out, WikiLeaks has long adhered to a policy of directly posting leaked information without redacting it, setting it apart from someone like whistleblower Edward Snowden, who vetted material before release to minimize collateral damage. And even for available information like the State Department email dump, WikiLeaks' high profile and searchable database raises its visibility— which, depending on the contents, is a double-edged sword.

In this case, the emails' larger import is still being figured out. The Intercept has covered messages that potentially show the DNC discussing using presidential candidate Bernie Sanders' religious beliefs against his campaign, and WikiLeaks pointed to an email discussing an anti-Trump campaign that apparently involved planting satirical Craigslist ads based on offensive comments Trump had made about women. But any revelations, it seems, will be balanced against potential risk to donors.

Update 4:30PM ET: Updated with new information from Gizmodo.

Clinton: Yes, Americans are fearful— but I’m a woman! [feedly]

----
Clinton: Yes, Americans are fearful— but I'm a woman!
// Personal Liberty Digest™

As the Republican National Convention kicked off its Make America Safe night Monday, CBS aired a conversation between Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and renowned interviewer Charlie Rose. During the exchange, Clinton admitted Americans are worried but said she has a secret weapon.

"There is a lot of fear in our country. And when Americans are worried they're looking for answers," she said in an effort to explain Trump's popularity.

"He's providing simplistic, easy answers. 'Let's make America great again,' which means basically, 'We'll go back to the way it was,'" she said.

Clinton told Rose that she is the obvious best choice for president because she's so very different as a presidential candidate.

Rose, however, pointed out: "You come from the establishment, you have a deep political history, you have been part of the establishment since you were the first lady of Arkansas."

Clinton didn't address the fact that she's the very epitome of "back to the way it was," from the prison-stuffing she supported during her husband's presidential administration to the disastrous foreign policy positions she supported as the nation's top diplomat.

Instead, she told viewers to vote for her because she has a vagina.

"Having a woman nominated for the first time by a major political party….Oh my gosh, that's revolutionary!" Clinton said.

Clinton also said that Trump is "the most dangerous man to ever run for president."

"No self-discipline, no self-control, no sense of history, no understanding of the limits of the kind of power that any president should impose upon himself. He has shown none of that," Clinton said.

It's almost as if she's suggesting Trump might allow national security secrets to fall into the hands of foreign hackers by running them through an unsecured email server. Or maybe she's afraid Trump would allow American citizens to die in a foreign terror attack and blame it on a YouTube video. Perhaps Clinton is worried Trump may work to destabilize multiple regions throughout the world to massage the power one of the most ruthless terror organizations in history.

Clinton is right to say her campaign is revolutionary. She's not even attempting to hide the fact that it's the first time in American history that a presidential candidate has asked voters to forget everything they know about a candidate except what's between their legs.

Clinton is not the most dangerous woman to ever run for president—that would be too easy. She's the most dangerous human being to ever seek the nation's highest office.

Don't believe everything you see on TV
// Personal Liberty Digest™

A frequent Fox News "terrorism analysist" was just sentenced to 33 months in prison for falsely claiming to have worked for the CIA for nearly three decades.

Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, has been a frequent guest on Fox since 2002, contributing to the network on foreign policy and terrorism matters as a "former CIA operative."

Between 1973 and 2000, the years Simmons claimed to have worked for the CIA, his actual resume includes such things as  nightclub doorman, bookie, manager of a rent-by-the-hour hot tub business, mortgage broker and defensive back for the National Football League's New Orleans Saints.

Evidently no one at Fox bothered to verify the source's background. And, evidently since he was on television as an "expert," nor did anyone working within the federal government.

In 2008, Simmons was named team leader of an Army program and in 2010 he was deployed to Afghanistan on the taxpayer dime as an intelligence advisor.

"Wayne Simmons is a fraud. Simmons has no military or intelligence background, or any skills relevant to the positions he attained through his fraud," Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, told reporters.

Eagle Tries To Carry Off Boy At Bird Of Prey Show

Attend a bird of prey show and you expect to see magnificent animals stretching out their wings and snatching up prey for the sake of human amusement.

Spectators might even get hit in the face with a wing, or get a scare when a bird comes flying towards their head, but nobody expects to see a bird trying to take off with one of their kids.

But that's what happened at the Alice Springs Desert Park in Central Australia- a wedge-tailed eagle swooped down and sunk his claws into the head of a boy wearing a green hoodie, acting like he wanted to carry the kid off.

The eagle looked a bit confused about the situation as well afterwards, and witnesses say the boy was playing with his zipper during the show, which may have initiated the attack.

Another sign of impending military conflict with Russia? [feedly]

----
Another sign of impending military conflict with Russia?
// Personal Liberty Digest™

In a move reminiscent of Cold War posturing, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly purged the entire top brass of his Baltic fleet late last month following reports that the commanders had "refused to confront Western ships" in the region.

We first began hearing about the purge earlier this year after a Russian submarine crashed in the Baltic and a Russian commander attempted a cover up.

Russia's Defense Ministry said in statements that the men were being replaced for "dereliction of duty" and "distortion of the real state of things."

But details now emerging suggest that the purge of nearly 50 top military commanders in Russia could have more to do with the leader's desire to install a fighting force willing to counter Western actions in the region without reserve.

"Some hint that the 'buzzing' of USS Donald Cook by Russian Su-24 fighter-bombers on April 14, 2016 was meant to be part of a broader series of Russian confrontations against Western ships in the Baltic," international affairs analyst Peter Coates told The Sun.

"But the Russian Baltic Fleet in April, however, refused to follow such dangerous orders — hence Putin's retaliation against his own naval officers."

If that's the case, Putin is working to ensure that his commanders will quickly follow any orders to take the offense against NATO forces encroaching on Russian territory.

The Russian president, who has increasingly expressed disdain for U.S. actions in the region, says another situation like what occurred in Ukraine will not arise under his watch.

Rules don’t apply to the Clintons [feedly]

Rules don't apply to the Clintons
// Personal Liberty Digest™

Fox News is reporting that the FBI has confirmed to Senator Charles Grassley that SHillary Clinton defense attorney James Comey – who doubles as the director of the FBI — forced agents investigating the Witch from Chappaqua to sign a special non-disclosure agreement.

From Fox:

July 1 letter sent by a senior deputy to FBI Director James Comey to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, detailed the restrictions on agents. The letter, reviewed by Fox News, confirmed agents signed a "Case Briefing Acknowledgement" which says the disclosure of information is "strictly prohibited" without prior approval, and those who sign are subject to lie detector tests.

"The purpose of this form is to maintain an official record of persons knowledgeable of a highly sensitive Federal Bureau of Investigation counterintelligence investigation," the agreement attached to the Grassley letter reads, "….I (FBI agent) also understand that, due to the nature and sensitivity of this investigation, compliance with these restrictions may be subject to verification by polygraph examination."

The measures show the extent to which the bureau has gone to keep additional details of the politically sensitive case from going public. While Comey has provided some information ‎on why the FBI did not opt to pursue charges, Attorney General Loretta Lynch repeatedly ducked questions on specifics of the case at a House hearing Tuesday.

The acknowledgement came months after Grassley first sent a letter to Comey after an tipster informed Grassley's office of the requirement.

The most corrupt woman in the history of U.S. politics, we have since learned from Comey, was at best too ignorant to know how to protect state secrets and was reckless and careless in sharing classified information with people outside the State Department – like longtime Clinton crony Sidney Blumenthal – but because she is part of the protected class there are no repercussions. But she did not "intend" to be careless or stupid," Comey said.

SHillary's interview with FBI agents were not recorded or even transcribed, nor did Comey – who made the call not to prosecute her – participate in the interview. He ostensibly made the decision not to recommend prosecution only a couple of hours after the interviews were completed.

Yet the investigating agents, under penalty of prison, are forced to sign an agreement that at first appeared to supersede whistleblower protections forbidding them from leaking (i.e., revealing criminal conduct they found that Comey shoved down the memory hole) evidence they uncovered: evidence that no doubt would show the Witch's criminality and Comey's complicity in the cover-up.

Any rational, thinking person knows that the fix was in from the start. And beyond the "careless" handling of top secret information, there is ample evidence that the Witch perjured herself.

But the fix was in from the beginning. There are rules for the "Big People." There are different rules for the "Little People." And then there is the fact that there are no rules that apply to the Clintons.

That means there is no rule of law in America.

Foreign governments warn against travel to U.S. [feedly]

----
Foreign governments warn against travel to U.S.
// Personal Liberty Digest™

The U.S. State Department routinely warns Americans travelers of potential dangers lurking in countries abroad. But with mounting chaos here in the States, it's becoming increasingly common for foreign governments to warn their citizens about the perils of traveling here.

For example, the Bahamian government recently warned of increased racial tension in and police violence in the country.

"We wish to advise all Bahamians traveling to the U.S. but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally. In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and cooperate," the statement said.

"If there is any issue please allow consular offices for The Bahamas to deal with the issues. Do not get involved in political or other demonstrations under any circumstances and avoid crowds."

And government officials from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain  and Canada have all warned travelers to the U.S. to avoid large crowds.

"Please stay away from any ongoing or planned demonstrations and protests in cities around the United States," said a statement from the UAE "Please be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid crowded places when possible."

Canada's government went further, warning that violent crime is "generally more prevalent" in the U.S. than in Canada.

"Robbery and assault can also occur in wealthy residential or commercial districts. Exercise caution, particularly at night," it notes online. "Violent crimes, particularly assault, are often connected to alcohol and drug consumption."

But it isn't just foreign governments warning of dangers.

The U.S. Army issued a statement warning all military personnel to avoid 37 cities throughout the country mentioned as possible gathering points for "Day of Rage" protestors on Friday,

"Please be advised the [US Northern Command] has issued a threat advisory informing DOD personnel that a series of protests has been scheduled to be conducted across the United States on July 15, 2016," the statement said.

"For your personal safety, we highly encourage you to avoid this specific location entirely," the Army added.

De-Paving like roads [feedly]

----
De-Paving Roads
// Neatorama

The price of asphalt and concrete has risen much faster than city budgets, so some towns are taking a retro approach to fixing damaged roads. Instead of constantly filling in potholes or repaving, they are grinding up the pavement and making gravel roads. Montpelier, Vermont, started doing it in 2009.

Repaving roads is expensive, so Montpelier instead used its diminishing public works budget to take a step back in time and un-pave the road. Workers hauled out a machine called a "reclaimer" and pulverized the damaged asphalt and smoothed out the road's exterior. They filled the space between Vermont's cruddy soil and hardier dirt and gravel up top with a "geotextile", a hardy fabric that helps with erosion, stability and drainage.

Many other towns have turned to gravel roads to dave money in the years since. While gravel roads aren't the greatest for vehicles, it beats banging your car over potholes every day. Read more about this trend at Wired. -via Digg

Putin

Just something that all Americans should read and think about.

No wonder he was selected by Forbes as the most powerful person in the world. This is one time our elected leaders should pay attention to the advice of Vladimir Putin.

I would suggest that not only our leaders but every citizen of USA should pay attention to this advice. How scary is that?

It is a sad day when a Communist Leader makes more sense than our leaders here in the U.S.A. but here it is!

Vladimir Putin's speech - SHORTEST SPEECH EVER. Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

"In Russia, live like Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, it should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslim's then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law.

"Russia does not need Muslim minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We will not tolerate disrespect of our Russian culture. We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland, France and Germany, if we are to survive as a nation. The Muslims are taking over those countries and they will not take over Russia. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of Sharia Law and Muslims.

"When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the Russian national interest first, observing that the Muslims Minorities Are Not Russians."

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five minute standing ovation.

In Case You Missed It

The FoodKeeper app on an iPhone

With technology readily at the fingertips of many consumers, USDA is continuously searching for innovative ways to deliver useful information to Americans right where they can easily find and utilize it. Enter
the Foodkeeper app, launched in 2015, which makes it easier to practice food safety at home by offering consumers valuable storage advice and food safety information on their mobile device for more than 400 commonplace food and beverage items.

Last week, we were excited to announce an update to the
app which now includes Spanish and Portuguese languages, broadening Foodkeeper's audience to millions of additional people who can be armed with the knowledge to keep their families safe.

Developed by USDA in collaboration with the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and Cornell University's Department of Food Science, Foodkeeper helps educate consumers about proper handling and storage for food items like baby food, dairy and egg products, meat, poultry, produce and seafood. If there is a question about what the "best by" date means or how to properly prepare and store food, the Foodkeeper app can likely answer it.

You can hear David Fikes, Vice President of FMI, explain the strategy behind developing a consumer-focused food safety app. The app is free and is available in Google Play for Android and in the App Store for Apple. Just type in Foodkeeper.

Using Market Data to Feed the World
In 2050, there will be about 9 billion people in the world. How do you feed 9 billion people? Clearly, we need more food, greater production, and more efficient processes, but how do we achieve that and how does that translate to success?

Actuality: Some Alarming Numbers on Opioid and Heroin Abuse
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, on a phone call with reporters Tuesday, giving some of the alarming numbers on Opioid and Heroin Abuse.

Iowa gets $4 million in drug addiction funds in Obama plan (Associated Press)
Under President Barack Obama's proposal to help ease a growing national problem related to drug addiction Iowa would get an additional $4 million to help expand treatment. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, appointed by Obama to oversee the administration's battle against a growing opioid addiction problem, says current drug abuse bills in Congress don't provide enough money.

USDA Head Points to Progress, Urges More Conservation to Slow Pollution (Greeneville Sun)

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack championed the progress made by both regulators and farmers to curb agriculture-related water pollution but still called for increased conservation efforts from each of the 50 states. Vilsack, a Democrat rumored to be on Hillary Clinton's short list for vice president, didn't voice support for an executive order to halt chemical and manure runoff into waterways.

Cather Woods, 74, rises early to start the day before the Texas heat has a chance to wake up. She smiles as she steps onto the soil she's nurtured for years. Inhaling the fresh air, she looks at the young pines under the rising sun, and, finally, she greets the cows excited by her arrival.

Wisconsin among 12 states to share $44 million for wetland conservation (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
Governmental agencies and programs they administer on public land have long been significant to conservation in America. But work on private land — often conducted by property owners — plays an important role in managing and restoring wildlife habitat, too. And arguably many of the most critical projects help protect sensitive natural areas in the midst of developed or "working" landscapes. A U.S. Department of Agriculture program that assists with conservation on private and tribal agricultural lands will provide $44 million over the next three years to partners in 12 states, including Wisconsin.

Vilsack: [Editorial] Urgent fix needed for Forest Service fire budget (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
California is in the midst of a massive forest die off, with 66 million dead trees, 26 million of which have died since October. Drought, beetles and climate change have taken a huge toll on the state's forests. These trees are fuel waiting to feed a fire, and when we can't remove them, the consequences are deadly. So it's no surprise that Gov. Jerry Brown and Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer wrote to me requesting that I direct the U.S. Forest Service to do everything in its power to respond to the tree mortality crisis facing their state.
