Roy rogers

Quote:
The young guns may not understand the meaning of this, but you will. The Roy Rogers Museum in Branson, MO has closed its doors forever. The contents of the museum were sold at a public auction. Roy Rogers told his son, if the museum ever operates at a loss, close it, and sell the contents. He complied. Note the follow-on article truly the end of an era. Here is a partial listing of some of the items that were sold at auction. Roy's 1964 Bonneville (Pontiac) sold for $254,500. It was estimated to sell between 100 and 150 thousand dollars. His script book from the January 14,1953 episode of This Is Your Life sold for $10,000 (EST. $800-$1,000). A collection of signed baseballs (Pete Rose, Duke Snyder, and other greats) sold for $3,750. A collection of signed bats (Yogi Berra, Enos Slaughter, Bob Feller, and others) sold for $2,750. Trigger 's saddle and bridle sold for $386,500. One of many of Roy's shirts sold for $16,250 and one of his many cowboy hats sold for $17,500. One set of boot spurs sold for $10,625. (He never used a set of spurs on Trigger) A life size shooting gallery sold for $27,500. Various chandeliers sold from $6,875 to $20,000, very unique and artistic in their western style. A signed photograph by Don Larsen taken during his perfect game in the world series against the Dodgers on Oct. 8, 1953, along with a signed baseball to Roy from Don, sold for $2,500. Two fabulous limited edition BB guns in their original boxes with Numerous photos of Roy, Dale, Gabby (Hayes), and Pat (Brady) sold for $3,750. A collection of memorabilia from his shows entertaining the troops in Vietnam sold for $938. I never knew he was there. His flight jacket sold for $7,500 His set of dinnerware plates and silverware sold for $11,875. The Bible they used at the dinner table every night sold for $8,750. One of several of his guitars sold for $27,500. Nellybelle (the Jeep) sold for $116,500. A fabulous painting of Roy, Dale, Pat, Buttermilk, Trigger, and Bullet sold for $10,625. One of several sets of movie posters sold for $18,750. A black and white photograph of Gene Autry with a touching inscription From Gene to Roy sold for $17,500. A Republic Productions Poster bearing many autographs of the People that played in Roy's movies sold for $11,875. Dale's horse, Buttermilk (whose history is very interesting) sold below the presale estimate for $25,000. (EST. 30-40 K). Bullet (stuffed) sold for $35,000 (EST. 10-15 K). He was their real pet. Dale's parade saddle, estimated to sell between 20-30 K, sold for $104,500. One of many pairs of Roy's boots sold for $21,250. Trigger (stuffed) sold for $266,500. Do you remember the 1938 movie The Adventures of Robinhood, With Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland? Well, Olivia rode Trigger in that movie. Trigger was bred on a farm co-owned by Bing Crosby. Roy bought Trigger on a time payment plan for $2,500. Roy and Trigger made 188 movies together. Trigger even outdid Bob Hope by winning an Oscar in the movie Son of Paleface in 1953. It is extremely sad to see this era lost forever. Despite the fact that Gene and Roy's movies, as well as those of other great characters, can be bought or rented for viewing, today's kids would rather spend their time playing video games. Today it takes a very special pair of parents to raise their kids with the right values and morals These were the great heroes of our childhood, and they did teach us right from wrong, and how to have and show respect for each other and the animals that share this earth. You and I were born at the right time. We were able to grow up with these great people even if we never met them. In their own way they taught us patriotism and honor. We learned that lying and cheating were bad, and that sex wasn't as important as love. We learned how to suffer through disappointment and failure and work through it. Our lives were drug free. So it's good-bye to Roy and Dale, Gene and Hoppy (Hop-a-long Cassidy), the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Lets not forget John Wayne. Farewell to Sky King (and Penny) and Superman and (Dragnet) Sgt. Friday. Thanks to Capt. Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers, and Capt. Noah and all those people whose lives touched ours, and made them better. It was a great ride through childhood. HAPPY TRAILS, MY FRIENDS.

Fwd: ACTION ALERT: Say NO to TVA Grid Access Charges!

#HandsOffMyBill - Say NO to TVA Grid Access Charges!

ENERGY ALABAMA ACTION ALERT!
Friends and members,

TVA is inviting the public to comment on a new proposal that would raise your energy bill. That's why we're asking you to email TVA today and tell them...

#HandsOffMyBill

Over the last several months, we've seen an explosion of mandatory fixed fees all across the Tennessee Valley. These fixed fees raise rates on regular people and hurt the economics of investing in energy efficiency and solar generation. We've already fought against fixed fees (and won!) in Huntsville. Now, TVA wants to drive up your bill with another misguided idea from the same flawed school of thought.

It's called a Grid Access Charge. And it's completely unfair to regular folks like you and me.

The basic idea with a Grid Access Charge is that you pay a fixed amount of money for access to the grid, no matter how much or how little you use. Under the terms of TVA's proposal, TVA wouldn't be charging this fee to you directly. They would be charging your local utility companies instead, but that's almost beside the point. If Grid Access Charges are implemented, it would only be a question of when, not if, local utilities pass the cost on to YOU.

The fact is, any fixed charges (like, say, Grid Access Charges) hurt low-income and low-energy users.

We know this from reading TVA's own words.

Read this passage from the executive summary of TVA's 2018 Wholesale Rate Change Draft Environmental Assessment. (Note that Alternative C is the Alternative TVA wants to adopt.)

"Under Alternative C and D, for instance, high-usage households would likely see a decrease of more than 1.5 percent in their average monthly bills while low-usage households would likely see a small increase in their average monthly bills. Low-usage households' monthly bills would increase more than other households as a proportion of household income."

Translation: Users that consume HUGE amounts of energy will pay the exact same Grid Access Charge as those who use the least. Regular folks with regular energy consumption levels will pay more per capita than those who use the most energy. That's totally unfair.

Here's what you can do about it.

TVA has invited the public to submit comments on its proposed rate hikes. If enough of us tell TVA that Grid Access Charges are unjust, we may just convince them to scrap this misguided idea. We've done it before with Huntsville Utilities. Now let's do it again.

Submit your comments by sending an email to Mshidgdon@tva.gov today! Tell her that TVA's fixed fees are unfair to regular, hardworking people. Tell them that everyone should pay their fair share based on how much they use. Tell them...

#HandsOffMyBill

Sacred Jerusalem church shuttered in dispute with Israeli authorities

We need to ban.

We need to ban all semiautomatic assault knives with a clip of more than 10". A 10" hunting knife is not required to kill a deer as they seem to fall dead by the side of the road on a regular basis.
Then we need to limit access to any and all assault knives to anyone under the age of 21 and then only with a ten day waiting period After a background check.
If anyone else there had had  a registered single shot knife,  they could have stopped this terrorist. Only after calling the cops and waiting an appropriate time and only then after asking if the terrorist planned to harm anyone else.
All could have been prevented if a sign had just been placed on the entrance door classifying the library as a knife free zone.

The fight to finally bring about sensible gun control in the United States is just beginning, and is a multi-pronged effort that will extend from this week's CNN Town Hall to the ballot box this November and beyond. But here's one thing that's simple, easy, and, if you're a regular reader of The A.V. Club, involves…

ENERGY ALABAMA ACTION ALERT!
Friends and members,

In 2016, Huntsville Utilities attempted to increase customer charges (also known as fixed fees or fixed charges). These are the fees you pay every month, regardless of how much energy you use.

Sounds fair right?

It's not. But we won that round with your help. People called City Council and showed up to meetings voicing their concerns. Council rejected the proposal. Huntsville Utilities came back with a better proposal calling for increases to the consumption charges. In other words, the more you use, the more you pay. A much fairer proposal.

But Huntsville Utilities is not the only utility trying to unjustifiably raise customer charges. Take a look at this example in Knoxville shared by our friends at the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.

In Knoxville, customer charges increased from $6.00/month in 2010 to $17.00/month in 2018. That means Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) customers are paying nearly 3 times more for "Basic Service" before they even turn on the first light switch each month!

To make it worse, KUB plans to add three more dollars to this charge in the coming months, taking this mandatory fixed fee to over $20.00 per month!

Wow!

These massive increases in fixed charges hurt low income and low energy users. And they hurt the economics for people who invest in energy efficiency and solar generation.

Now for the worst news...TVA now plans to add even more mandatory fixed fees to our bills in the coming months and they're doing it behind closed doors. We are seeing the whole Tennessee Valley exploding with mandatory fixed fees littering our bills and driving them up.

Sign the petition from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy to tell TVA you want more transparency and that massive increases in fixed charges are unjust.

Are you in?
